The second leg of the Italian J/70 Cup took place in Alassio, Italy. Forty boats from all over Europe were hoping for good conditions on the Mediterranean Sea, despite the somewhat gloomy forecasts. In the end, the YC Alassio’s Race Committee/PRO team was happy to get in five races over the three days. In the end, it was Alessandro Molla’s team on VIVA (Niccolò Bianchi on tactics, Carlo Fracassoli on mainsail and Francesco Gabbi on the sheets) who prevailed by winning the first two races on Saturday and avoiding any big pitfalls on Sunday to take the top of the podium. Molla commented on their good fortune, “Great satisfaction for the two beautiful races on Saturday, even if with a light breeze. From the start, to the speed of the boat, everything turned in the right direction and we carry on, we hope to be able to continue our success in the series!” Second place in the standings went to Ludovico Fassitelli’s JUNDA- BANCA DEL SEMPIONE with Stefano Cherin on tactics and crew of Francesco Orlando, Davide Vignone and Leonardo Bonellie. The third step on the podium went to Luca Domenici’s NOTARO TEAM with Elena Paolucci, Michele Mennuti, Pietro Sibello and Lorenzo Bressani. Their team had the most consistent record in the fleet with all top six finishes. In the Corinthian division, Luca Tubaro’s ANIENE YOUNG team (Filippo Baldassari, Matteo Morellina and Matteo Cecconi) overcome a tough first race 21st to then post all top nine finishes to take the Corinthian crown by a significant margin of 18 points. First day regatta leader Massimo Rama’s JENIALE EUROSYSTEM team (Matteo Puppo, Matte Capurro, Emanuele Giacheri and Francesca di Gangi) endured a roller-coaster scoreline of 12-7-20-3-14 for 36 points net to take the silver. Riding a wild wave record was Gianfranco Noe’s WHITE HAWK team (Matija Succi, Giacomo Conti, Giuliano Chiandussi and Barbara Bomben), starting the regatta with a 42(BFD) and closing with a final race win to take the bronze.
