The Circolo Della Vela Erix hosted the second event of the Italian J/70 Cup series for a fleet of 19 boats. Given the weekend’s uncertain forecasts, Principal Race Officer Riccardo Incerti aimed to get in as many races as possible before conditions worsened. Taking the early lead was Andrey Pushkin’s TENZOR TEAM (scoring 3-1-1-3). Attempting to challenge them were the French crew from EURO-VOILES (5-4-6-1). Led by Louis Barbet, they won the fourth race of the series and posted other strong results, securing them a spot near the top of the leaderboard overnight. Mauro Roversi’s J-CURVE (6-6-2-2), top Italian team, improved steadily throughout the day. The Irish crew aboard WILDCARD— led by Harry Twomey (7-2-3-5)— sat in fourth place. Then sitting in fifth place was the second-ranked Corinthian entry: Gianfranco Noè’s WHITE HAWK (1-12-7-6). WHITE HAWK was tied on points with Ali Hall’s CALYPSO (10-5-4-7). For day two, the attempts by the PRO to complete at least one race proved futile. A sudden shift in the breeze—which was both fleeting and unstable—ultimately led to the cancellation of the only race that had actually started. With no new racing, those results were enough to award the Garmin Cup to Andrey Pushkin’s TENZOR TEAM. On Sunday, the fickle breeze again prevented the completion of a race. The PRO was forced to call an end to the final day, with no new results added. This situation locked in the standings from Day 1, so Andrey Pushkin’s TENZOR TEAM and crew (Aleksandr Andrianov, Danil Odintsov, Nikita Ushkov) secured the overall victory. The silver medal went to Louis Barbet’s French team on EURO-VOILES; his crew consisted of Francois Barbet, Sylvestre de Giuli Morghen and Denis Infante. Rounding out the podium was Mauro Roversi’s Italian crew on J-CURVE; his crew was Filippo Amontillado, Stefano Cherin, Giulia Conti and Anastasia Mutti. The top five included the Irish crew of Harry Twomey on WILDCARD in fourth place and Gianfranco Noe’s Italian crew on WHITE HAWK in fifth. Easily winning the Corinthian Division was Louis Barbet’s EURO-VOILES crew from France. Silver went to Harry Twomey’s Irish crew on WILDCARD, while the bronze went to Gianfranco Noe’s Italian WHITE HAWK crew. The J/70 Italian Class uses the Vakaros RaceSense system to manage race starts. It is supported by Lincoln International, Garmin, VelaMania, North Sails Collection, UtilGraph, Gottifredi Maffioli and Gin Vento.
