The third event of the Barcelona J/70 Winter Series was held in the waters of Barcelona. There are 14 teams from five different nations sailing the five-event series. After three days of sailing, a total of 10 races were held, despite the fact the wind was quite varied both in direction and intensity from 5 to 12 knots all weekend. The first day of racing ended with Jorge Doreste’s HANG TEN as the leader. They were followed by the Polish ELESSAR 2 who was tied with the TENAZ team (Pablo Garriga with Rayco Tabares on tactics and Alex Muscat helming). The next day, despite the cold, the sun and the wind made an appearance in the Catalan capital, which facilitated the four planned races. At the end of the day, Gustavo del Castillo’s CLINICAS W fell to fifth place. Those who did not fall were TENAZ, who climbed from third to first place with 1-4-5-1 finishes. Moving into second was HANG TEN with a 4-5-3-4 tally. Then, NOTICIA had the most impressive comeback on the water with a 2-3-2-3 to leap into a tie for second place. Sunday dawned cold in Barcelona. Anything could still happen in the leading positions, as three races were enough to score points on your rivals. The best teams on the last day were CLINICAS W with a 6-2-1 and NOTICIA with a 1-3-5. As a result, in the 10-race, no throw-out series, Pablo Garriga’s TENAZ took the regatta win with 23 points. After their slow start, Luis Martin Cabiedes’ NOTICIA took the silver with 25 points, followed by Dario Alvardeo/Jorge Martinez Doreste’s HANG TEN with the bronze at 27 points. After the third event in the five-regatta series, the leader is currently TENAZ with 51 points, followed by NOTICIA with 62 points, and CLINICAS in third with 78 points.
