The bay offshore of the Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron was the scene of the 2016 J/70 Canadian Championship. Scott Weakley’s Rex took five firsts in the seven races they sailed. They won by so much they did not have to sail the last two races of the nine-race regatta. The seven-boat fleet enjoyed classic Nova Scotia early fall conditions, with temperatures in the 60s F, easterly breezes in the 10-20 knot range and plenty of on-water action managed by PRO Andreas Josenhans. Following Weakley’s dominating REX team, it was a fight for the last two places on the podium. Winning three of the last four races was Stu McCrea’s CAN 550, taking second overall with 32 points. Losing that battle was Graeme Carr’s Joyridin’ with a steady scoreline for a total of 34 points to take third place. Rounding out the top five was Peter Midgeley’s Good Togo with 37 points in fourth and Rich Jones’ Maverick in fifth with 37 pts.
