The 2022 French J/70 National Championship took place on the Mediterranean Sea, hosted by Union Nautique Marseillaise (UNM) off the seaport of Marseilles. A fleet of 21 teams from France, Monaco and Spain enjoyed a 10 ten-race series managed by UNM PRO Corinne Aubert. After a four-day event highlighted by a broad range of sailing conditions, SAGE ENGINEERS sailed by Damian Michelier and his crew of Charlie Guth, Clement Galliache, Alois de Gauitaut & Jean-Yves Martin managed to win four of their last five races to win with just 20 points net after 10 races. Taking the silver was a youth team, INSHORE SUD with female skipper Paola Amar and her team of Louis Chambet, Julien Bunel, Emmanuelle Tora and Xavier Rohart. They were consistently fast, never winning a race but counting all top-seven finishes in their scoreline for 33 points net. The final step on the podium was taken by Herve Leduc’s JIBE SET- PIERRE OCEANE. His team of Loic Avram, Bernard Mallaret, Stephane Barraux & Etienne Luneau sailed to all top ten finishes to take the bronze with 48 points net. Rounding out the top five were two more youth J/70 teams. Fourth was Timothe Rossi’s BMW LIGUE SUD with crew of Thibault Demai, Matteo Fatti, Charles Henon & Jean Baptiste Pascal. Fifth place went to Ian Garreta’s YOUTH MADE IN SUD team of Yona Blacher, Vicenc Girodeau, Calixte Benoit & Sylvestre de Giuli Morghen.
