Phantom 7 claimed victory in the opening event of the Barcelona Winter Series J/70 after a closely contested weekend at the Reial Club Nàutic de Barcelona (RCNB). The team finished level on points with Noticia, but secured the overall win on the countback.
A total of 16 international teams took part in the first event of the 2026–2027 season, which featured seven races over three days in varying wind conditions.
A closely fought battle at the top
The opening day saw light easterly-southeasterly winds of 5–7 knots. Hang Ten made a strong start to the regatta, taking the provisional lead after the first three races, ahead of Noticia and Phantom 7.
On the second day, the Garbí breeze increased to 10–13 knots, allowing the fleet to complete three more races. Noticia moved to the top of the provisional standings with a consistent series of results, including a race win, a second and a third place. Hang Ten remained in contention, while Phantom 7 held third overall. HSN Sailing Team also delivered a strong performance, finishing second and third in the first two races of the day before retiring from the final race following an injury to one of its crew members.
The final day began with racing postponed ashore due to insufficient wind. Conditions eventually improved enough for the fleet to complete the seventh and final race, which proved decisive in the overall standings. Phantom 7 won the race and secured the event victory with 15 points, tied with Noticia but ahead on the countback.
Hang Ten completed the overall podium in third place with 20 points, followed by Waikiki in fourth with 24 points and HSN Sailing Team in fifth with 25.
Corinthian division
In the Corinthian division, Halbtrocken Dry-Light took the win with 43 points, ahead of Duc in Altum, second with 51 points, and Grün, third with 52.
The next event will take place from 6 to 8 November 2026. The series comprises seven events running through April 2027.
