The 13th Monaco Sportsboat Winter Series, organised by Yacht Club de Monaco, got off to a fast-paced start 6-9 November, with three days of back-to-back racing for the J/70s. The 23 teams faced tactical challenges during eight races in changeable conditions. The suspense was short-lived with G-Spot, helmed by YCM’s Giangiacomo Serena di Lapigio, taking control to win five of the eight races. Relentlessly consistent in all conditions, they finished nine points ahead of the Italians on Alice. The French on Euro-Voiles completed the podium. Gaps between the top ten behind them are minimal, just one poor result could upset the overall rankings.Euro-Voiles was the Corinthian winner, ahead of the Swiss on Tarte-3Nuits.com and Rhubarbe-3Nuits.com. The J/70 Monaco Class Association is one of the largest fleets in the Mediterranean, with ten of the 17-strong fleet competing this weekend. Optimal conditions helped visiting teams anticipate gusts and take advantage of what is recognised as an ideal training ground for practicing manoeuvres and starts, and testing equipment and crew configurations, in race conditions ahead of the season’s major events).
