The second act of the Villalia Spring Series took place with the Real Club Náutico de Vigo playing host to an enthusiastic fleet of J/70s. The two-day regatta enjoyed gorgeous weather and great breezes, permitting RCN Vigo to run a total of six races. In the end, it was the young skipper from Vigo, Luis Bugallo, who skippered MARNATURA to an overall win with his crew of Enrique Freire, Javier de la Gándara, Luis Wizner and Pablo García. MARNATURA won the first three races on the first day. Although they could not maintain the same momentum, their 7-10-2 tally on Sunday enabled them to win with 12 points net. Behind MARNATURA, it was a battle for the final two steps on the podium between three teams: LA GUARDIA & MOREIRA, ABRIL ROJO and ABRIL VERDE. After six races and a toss race, two of those teams ended up tied on 20 points each. Winning that tiebreaker on countback was Gonzalo Araujo’s LA GUARDIA & MOREIRA over Jorge Perez Canal’s ABRIL ROJO, finishing second and third, respectively. Fourth went to Canal’s brother Luiz Perez Canal’s ABRIL VERDE with 21 points, followed by another Canal family member—Alejandro Perez Canal’s SAILWAY ACADEMY in fifth place with 24 points.
