The third event of the J/70 UK Grand Slam Series again took place on the Solent in early June. Saturday morning dawned with white-caps whipping on the Solent in current against wind conditions. Racing was canceled for the 22-boat fleet. On Sunday, continuing their strong performances in the first two events, Martin & Ruby Dent’s JELVIS team maintained their pace, posting a 1-1-2-1 tally for just 3 points net to win Act III and increase their lead in the overall J/70 UK Grand Slam Series. The second and third spots on the podium were determined by a tiebreaker at 7 points apiece between Ali Hall’s CALYPSO and Simon Perry’s JIRAFFE. Winning that battle on countback was Hall’s CALYPSO team with a 2-11-1-4 tally, with Perry’s JIRAFFE settling for third with their 3-2-3-2 scoreline.
