Last Saturday concluded the inaugural J/70 World Championships in Newport, Rhode Island. 86 boats competed in what was the largest inaugural World Championships in the history of sailing. This year, Torqeedo also introduced a new division to the Class. The Dynasty Division was created to recognize teams competing with more than one family member onboard. Encouraging family sailing is paramount to the future involvement of sailing, and the introduction of the class was a huge success. Out of the total 86 teams competing, 21 teams were eligible for the Dynasty Division–a true testament to how important family involvement in sailing is to have almost a quarter of the fleet registered was a great introduction. The sailing and competition was fierce, with the British team from Team RAF Benevolent Fund (RAFBF) Spitfire taking first place overall in the Dynasty Division. Torqeedo is looking for future regattas to implement this division in and be a part of.
