Light winds inaugurated day one of the J/70 European Championships. The Race Committee, chaired by Giancarlo Crevatin, waited until late afternoon to complete two races. The stars were the Italians of Jcurve and Alice, the Russians of ZID Art Sailing Team and the Spaniards of Marnatura 1, catching bullets for Tuesday. The general ranking puts the Italians of Alice in the lead, with Salvatore Eulisse at the helm, followed by the other Italian crew of Mauro Roversi’s JCurve and Spaniard Luis Bugallo and his Marnatura 1. In the Corinthian division Mauro Brescacin and La Femme Terrible leads, followed by Gianfranco Noè’s White Hawk and Spaniard Luis Perez Canal with Abril Verde. Gabriele Benussi, tactician for Alice, said,” It was a positive day thanks to excellent work by the team in the days leading up to set-up and two beautiful starts that allowed us to carry out our plan. A special thanks goes to our owner, Federico Leproux, who couldn’t be with us because of personal commitments but supports us constantly.” Francesca Russo Cirillo, Tactician of La Femme Terrible, said, “We are very satisfied with the results. We found light wind conditions favorable because of a good boat set-up and an excellent pace. Two good starts allowed us to lead from the start and close in good positions. We hope this continues and to find favorable racing conditions in the coming days.”
