The Netherlands J/70 Class held their 2023 Dutch J/70 National Championship in Muiden, Netherlands. The 17-boat fleet saw spirited competition in the seven races run over the weekend. In the end, it was John den Engelsman’s team on ALMERE CENTRALE (Willem Jan Van Dort and Nik Smit) who started fast out of the blocks on the first day of competition with three straight bullets to ultimately win the Championship. After posting a 1-1-1, they finished the regatta with a 5-2-2-DNF, not sailing the last race to win with 12 pts net. Rounding out the podium was Mees de Graaf’s MUIDEN DELFT CHALLENGE team (Ivo Polderman, Edoardo Marelli and Paul Sebregts) who took second place with an impressive performance of 2-12-4-6-1-1-5 for 19 pts net. Third was Joshua Amato’s HOLLANDSCH WEELDE team (Olaf Bouwens, Xander van Beurden and Coen Bouhuys) with a record of 7-6-2-2-7-6-1 for 24 pts net. The balance of the top five was Rikst Dijkstra’s SHE SAILS in fourth place and Ted Huuskes’s KIND OF MAGIC in fifth place.
