The International J/70 Class Association (IJ70CA) Executive Committee (EC) has unanimously agreed to the J/70 Class membership suspension of Alexandre Saldanha for one year from the date of the Rules infraction June 9, 2024. Furthermore, the EC has issued a letter of reprimand to Renato Faria. The IJ70CA EC authority and process to suspend a membership is described in Section 6 MEMBER SUSPENSION of the IJ70CA Constitution, a copy of which is available on the International J/70 Class website. The International Jury of the 2024 J/70 Corinthian World Championship held in Copenhagen Denmark June 2024 issued a report to the Class in accordance with RRS 69.2(j). The International Jury received two reports, which were investigated, and held misconduct hearings into two Brazilian sailors: Alex Saldanha (crew for BRA493) and Renato Faria (owner and driver of BRA493). The allegation of misconduct for Mr. Alex Saldanha was upheld. The allegation of misconduct for Mr. Renato Faria was upheld, and the boat was scored DNE for the first three races of the Championship. This unfortunate event has been thoroughly discussed among the EC, given the supreme importance that the Class puts into keeping the Corinthian category a purely amateur one. In this direction, the EC would like to remind all sailors that it will take strong and immediate action in case any conduct of an individual puts at risk the Corinthian spirit.
