A fleet of 21 J/70s drove the mountain roads of Switzerland down to Ascona for the 2021 Swiss J/70 National Championship. The event was hosted by the Regatta Club Lago Maggiore and Yacht Club Locarno. After a total of nine races sailed in mostly thermal/seabreeze conditions on the lake, it was Stefan Seger’s JURMO team from Regatta Club Oberhoden (Till Seger, Matthias Fahmi, Karin Nordstroem, Elianne Boeni) who won with a scoreline of 7-3-2-6-8-1-3-10-1 for 31 points net. All the top teams had roller-coaster scorelines with most having at least one or more double-digit score. Suffering a first race OCS 23rd finish, but rallying hard was Nelson Mettraux’s APROTEC SA team from Centre d’Entrainement a’la’Regate (Romain Defferrard, Guillaume Rol, Victor Casas). They sailed smart and fast for the rest of regatta to post a 2-1-1-3-10-4-6-6 for 33 points net. Taking the bronze medal was Nick Zeltner’s QUARTER 2 ELEVEN team from Regatta Club Oberhofen. His crew of Bruno Zeltner, Stefan Pulfer and Silvan Zuppiger posted a 13-1-7-12-6-3-1-5-17 tally for 48 points. Rounding out the top five were Yves Mermod in fourth and Sacha Bevant in fifth place.
