With stiff 8-18 knot breezes, the 40th Primo Cup-Trophee UBS, organised by Yacht Club de Monaco, proved a tense one design contest for the 400 crew and 10 nations competing in J/70, Smeralda 888, Longtze Premier and Cape 31. Around 50 J/70s turned out with Monaco sailors confirming their domination with Giangiacomo Serena di Lapigio (G-Spot) the overall winner for the second time after four races. In Corinthian, Cesare Gabasio (TinnJ70) came 2nd behind the Swiss on Jerry. It’s a passion being passed on to youngsters like Roman Lampert (11), Ludovica Bonelli (14), Louis Pompee (9) and Josephine Dobbelaere (10) from YCM’s Sports Section on the J/70 Team Optimist, led by coach Margaux Meslin. It was also the fourth and final Act of the 11th Monaco Sportsboat Winter Series of monthly regattas (November-March). After a total of 18 races, the season was won comfortably by Giangiacomo Serena di Lapigio (G-Spot), with Pierrik Devic (Raph Seven Yacht) second and Lorenzo Bortolotti (Black Swan) third.
