One of the more popular winter regattas north of Buenos Aires, Argentina is the Vela Fest Quilla hosted by the Barlovento Sail Club and the Club Nautico Albatros, with sailing taking place on the Rio de la Plata. Despite the often difficult weather conditions for the first weekend, the regatta ended with an awesome south/southwest wind of 20-25 knots on the final day, much to the delight of all the J/70 competitors. After a seventh in the first race, Franciso van Avermaete’s team of Carlos Lacchini and Rafa Geronimo eclipsed the fleet with a 2-1-1-2 record to handily win the regatta. URU 780 from Punta del Este Yacht Club, sailed by Aldo Centarano, Bruno Centanaro and Mauro Leite, ended up in second place with a 3-5-4-3-3 tally for 18 points. Third was PRINCIPADO sailed by Fernando Gwozdz, Francisco Bellocchio and Roberto Di Bernardo with a record of 1-3-6-2-9 for 21 points.
