The fourth event of the Barcelona Winter Series for J/70 concluded in February, organized by the Real Club Náutico de Barcelona (RCNB) in collaboration with the Société Nautique de Genève. The competition was marked by challenging weather conditions, with very light winds and overcast skies, yet this did not prevent a high level of participation. The J/70 starting line featured 29 teams from 11 nations (Germany, France, Hungary, United Kingdom, Switzerland, Ukraine, Portugal, Sweden, Denmark, Austria, and Spain). After missing two events, Tenaz, skippered by Pablo Garriga, made a spectacular return, demonstrating great consistency with a fourth, a first, and another fourth place in the final race, which the race committee had to shorten due to the lack of wind. Alongside Garriga, the winning crew included Lanzarote’s Rayco Tabares as tactician, Rubén Castells as trimmer and Luis Arrarte at the bow. Second place went to Noticia, led by Luis M. Cabiedes, finishing with a fifth, ninth and second place. Their team also featured Canary Islander Alberto Padrón as tactician and headsail trimmer. The third step of the podium was claimed by Danish sailor Sten Mohr, who, at the helm of Lady in Red, initially led the event but was pushed down to third overall after a poor final race, finishing with a first, second and 14th place. The competition was incredibly tight, with only five points separating second place from eighth, and several boats tied on points. The International Barcelona Winter Series will conclude with its fifth and final event from March 21-23, coinciding with the start of the Barcelona Spring Series for J/70. Organizers anticipate strong participation and an increase in registrations for the spring regattas. More information: www.barcelonawinterseries.com
