After yesterday spent waiting for wind, Friday saw three races completed in both the Silver and Gold fleets of the J/70 European Championship in Copenhagen. The 98 competing boats enjoyed yet another day of sunshine, racing with winds of 5-6 knots outside the harbor of Skovshoved. Italy’s Claudia Rossi dominated the qualifying series but with the scoring starting anew in the Final Series, the three-time J/70 European Champion dropped to a 12th spot overall. Instead Britain’s Paul Ward on Eat,Sleep,J,Repeat claimed the top spot with 17 points after a stable performance with two 7th and a 3rd place today. Russia’s Sergei Sobolev took second place with 23 points, and tied on points at 24 for the next two positions are Spain’s José María Torcida Seghers and Monaco’s Loic Pompée. Tomorrow is the final day at the J/70 European Championship. With three races scheduled, the race for gold is still wide open. Leading the Silver fleet is Jacob Ahlers of Germany with 11 points, three in front of Russia’s Andrey Bratan. Kasper Nordenram of Sweden rests in third with 17 points.
