The J/70 World Championship fourth edition will be contested September 12-16, 2017 in Porto Cervo, Italy, and hosted by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda. The venue was confirmed by the World Council of the International J/70 Class Association (IJ70CA) on May 6. “We are absolutely grateful and delighted with the decision to award Italy the honour of hosting the J/70 Worlds,” said the J/70 Italian Class President Mauro di Vittorio. “After the success of the last European Championship, we have campaigned throughout the bid knowing that we can deliver a superb World Championship putting crews and owners at its heart, and we now have the opportunity to do so and to give a new boost to the National class,” added Paolo Boido, J/Boats dealer for Italy and Class Secretary of the Italian J/70s. The J/70 Class is indeed rapidly growing in Italy, and this year its J/70 ALCATEL ONETOUCH Italian Open Championship has been attracting competitors from as far away as Sweden. “It gives us encouragement, and we will continue on this path leading up to the 2017 World Championship,” finally commented Di Vittorio. The venue itself will ensure a successful event not only for the technical features of Porto Cervo’s racing field, but also for the beautiful attractions this location has to offer. The combination of great sailing waters, top class race management and the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda’s hospitality (which will be celebrating its 50th anniversary the same year) seem to pave the way to a great fourth edition of J/70 World Championship.
